“She’s cool and I obviously have nothing against her but-“ We tend to compare ourselves because growing up- most of us were pitted against each other. Who has the nicest outfit? Who has the higher grade? This later turns into “Who is she dating? What’s she studying? Yeah that major is hardly any work, no offense.” (I get this a lot but sidebar: Working smart > working hard, no one’s stopping you) Little girls grow up reading fairytales where women need to be “rescued” or “saved”, it’s okay to keep sharing these fairytales but as long as we are also sharing real life stories where women and minorities are fighters, survivors and leaders. I’m making a vow to myself to highlight the work of more women as I go. To support and build each other, try my best to not compare myself because the great part about existing in this wild, wild world is that we are all unique individuals. And the least we can do is build each other up and if we can’t say something positive- let’s not say anything at all. tldr: build people up instead of breaking them down. the same energy can be invested in real work. that being said, i seldom meet people that want to invest their time and energy in being negative, thank you for making the world a better place!!
